The I'On Monument
In the Northwestern corner of I'On, towards the marsh, sits the I'On family monument in a clearing in the woods. The monument, inspiration for the I'On logo, is an important symbol of the history behind this land we now call 'home'. Click here to read the inscriptions on the monument. The clearing has been preserved as that section of I'On was developed, and is surrounded by a cedar fence to protect the artifacts within the cemetery.
Jacob Bond I'On (1782-1859), served as the mayor of Sullivan's Island, president of the South Carolina Senate and was a War of 1812 hero.
The planter and U.S. Army and militia officer was described at his death as a 'representative of the true Carolina gentleman.'
